Project S.A.R.A.H. (Stop Abusive Relationships At Home) invites you to join us
as we address the issue of child sexual abuse in the Jewish community. We have
invited Debbie Fox, LCSW, and Rabbi Berish Goldenberg to educate us with
regard to the successful work they have done in the Los Angeles Jewish community.
This work has led to providing needed services for the victims and perpetrators as
well as their families and schools. They will share their experiences in interacting
with the legal and criminal systems while remaining culturally sensitive to the
needs of the Jewish community.

Rabbis from New Jersey are invited to attend a rabbinic training session sponsored by Project S.A.R.A.Hon Saturday evening, March 6, at Cong. Shomrei Torah in Fair Lawn. The program, “Transforming a Painful Response into an Effective One,” will focus on dealing with sexual abuse in the Jewish community. Speakers include Henna White and Chana Widawski from the office of Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes. The two founded “Kol Tzedek,” the Voice of Justice, which works with other community agencies, including schools and hospitals, to raise awareness in the Jewish community of sexual abuse issues while providing information on criminal justice and mental health services available to victims and families. Psychologist David Pelcovitz, an expert on trauma and loss in children, will also speak about developing the skills a rabbi needs to have in order to respond when a case of sexual abuse is revealed in the community. Pelcovitz holds the Gwendolyn and Joseph Straus Chair in Psychology and Jewish Education at the Azrieli Graduate School of Yeshiva University. He has served as the director of psychology at North Shore University Hospital-New York University School of Medicine and as clinical professor of psychology at New York University School of Medicine. Rabbis and their spouses are welcome. For information, call Elke Stein, project director, at (973) 777-7638 or www.JFSClifton.org.
